The First Hokage (初代火影, Shodai Hokage?) was the founder of Konoha and used his unique Mokuton abilities to create the village. He was the older brother of the Second Hokage, and the grandfather of Tsunade. On separate occasions he fought Kakuzu and Madara Uchiha, the latter of which he is known to have defeated.
After the First's death, Orochimaru exhumed his body, extracted his DNA, and injected it into 60 test subjects in an attempt to replicate Mokuton. Yamato was the only test subject to survive, and as such was endowed with the First's abilities. In later years, Orochimaru resurrects the First and Second to battle their former student, the Third Hokage. With the Third unable to defeat them in his old age, he seals away their souls, sentencing them to an eternity of continuous battle
